Archive for December, 2011
If you are in the Bay Area, California, please stop by at ATA Gallery on Friday, December 16th for an evening of expanded cinema, acoustics, and electronics, featuring a sonic performance and films by Thomas Carnacki and LaborBerlin member Sylvia Schedelbauer. The show will be grouped into 2 sections: The Thomas Carnacki ensemble deploying various and sundry devices, sound-emitting appliances, vibrating vessels, and odd found objects in a very rare live audio-visual collaboration among and between these artists; and secondly, a section of Schedelbauer’s experimental shorts, produced in San Francisco and Berlin over the last 5 years.

Published December 7, 2011 LaborBerlin News , LaborBerlin Workshops Leave a Comment
Lebanese filmmaker Siska and LaborBerlin members Michel Balagué and Philip Widmann will offer an intensive workshop on analog film practice at the Zico House from January 6th to 12th, 2012.
During the seven days of LABeirut, twelve participants will learn to operate Super 8 and 16mm film cameras, to expose different film stocks as well as to hand-process, edit and finally project their own films.
Prospective participants need no previous knowledge of working with analog film, although experience in camera-based visual practices – photography, video and film – will be an asset.
The first introductory meeting on January 6 will be followed by a public screening of works by various members of LaborBerlin e.V. at Zico House. On January 12 the films produced by the participants of LABeirut will be shown at Metropolis Cinema.

A warm shout out goes to Linda Scobie in San Francisco who has donated over 100 Super 8 reels to LaborBerlin. Linda is a dedicated film worker and driving force behind many film endeavors in the Bay Area: she volunteers at Artists’ Television Access and Other Cinema, inspects films at Canyon Cinema, curates film programs, and of course, she makes her own d-i-y films! If you find yourself at a screening at ATA or Canyon, turn around, Linda is usually behind that perfect 16mm projection!
